Civil servants' and teachers' trade unions in Malawi call off strike planned for Jan. 9 following negotiations with authorities.

The Civil Servants Trade Union (CSTU) and Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) have canceled their nationwide strike planned for Jan. 9 following negotiations with authorities. The government has agreed to salary increments applicable from April 2023. The unions had originally announced their intention to strike following the collapse of negotiations on Dec. 16; they had also received the support of the Nurses and Midwives Organisation of Malawi (NONM) and the Physicians Assistants Union of Malawi (PAUM).
