Public sector employees affiliated with the Inter-Union of State Civil Servants of Fenua and several other unions are staging a strike across French Polynesia Jan. 19 to oppose the government's plan to enact pension-related reforms. Reports indicate some public schools will remain closed territorywide Jan. 19. It remains immediately unclear if other public service disruptions are likely to occur.

Activists may stage demonstrations during the strike period, especially near educational facilities, government buildings, public squares, and/or major thoroughfares.
