Senegal: Activists staging rally in Dakar Feb. 15

Opposition activists are staging a demonstration in central Dakar during the early evening of Feb. 15 after having marched from Rond Point Sam (Iba Mar Diop Stadium) to Rond Point ONU during the late afternoon. The purpose of the action is to demand the release of alleged political prisoners and detained activists. Preliminary information indicates that several hundred people are attending the gathering.

Authorities have deployed an increased security presence near the demonstration as a precaution. Localized traffic disruptions are likely. Confrontations between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.
