Taiwan: Reduced internet likely to occur in parts of Taiwan through at least late February
Decreased internet bandwidth likely to occur in parts of Taiwan through at least late February due to two damaged undersea cables.
Event
Periods of reduced internet speeds are likely in parts of Taiwan through at least late February following accidental damage to two undersea cables since Feb. 2. Provider Chunghwa Telecom has indicated limited internet, and mobile service disruptions are especially likely in Lienchiang County.
Additionally, the National Communications Commission (NCC) has warned such disruptions may also impact users of other telecommunication providers in other parts of Taiwan over the coming days. Reports suggest repair works will likely continue through at least late February. Associated business disruptions are possible until authorities complete repair works.
Advice
Plan for possible communication and business disruptions due to reduced bandwidth. Consider alternative modes of communication, such as satellite connections, for critical business operations.
