Peru delcares state of emergency in two provinces of Loreto Department through at least April 17 due to prevalence of drug traffickers.
Event
In response to an increase in drug-trafficking activities, Peru declared a state of emergency in the Mariscal Ramon and Castilla Putumayo provinces of Loreto Department through at least April 17. Under the state of emergency, certain constitutional rights are suspended, including the right to be free from warrantless searches, the right to free movement, and the right to assembly. The measure also allows the armed forces to support the police in law-enforcement activities.
Police and military forces will likely deploy throughout the area and may conduct searches of individuals and vehicles.
