Germany: WWII bomb disposal operation ongoing in Laatzen March 5

WWII bomb disposal operation ongoing in Laatzen, Germany, March 5; localized evacuations and transport disruptions ongoing.

Warning

Event

Authorities are currently disposing of three suspected World War II-era bombs in Laatzen on March 5. The devices were discovered around Eric-Panitz-Strasse, in the city center. Authorities have set up a 1,000-meter (3,280-foot) evacuation security cordon around the devices to facilitate the disposal operation.

No traffic is permitted on roads within the security cordon for the duration of the disposal operation; part of the A37, B6, and B443 highways are closed as a result. Public transport normally routed through the area will be canceled or diverted; increased traffic congestion is likely on alternative routes. Officials anticipate the disposal operation will last until the evening of March 5.

Advice

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Check public transport schedules and local traffic conditions for disruptions before travel; plan alternative routes if necessary.
