A magnitude-5.1 earthquake occurred in Loreto Region, Peru at 08:35 April 4. The epicenter was about 233 km (145 miles) west-northwest of Iquitos. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout the western Loreto Region in Peru, western Amazonas Department in Colombia, and eastern parts of Orellana and Pastaza provinces, Ecuador. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are likely over the coming days.
