Security operations carried out by Ethiopian military forces targeting suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Gedo region resulted in 17 suspected militants being killed as of Monday, April 13. Ethiopian Defense Forces' Eastern Air Force Division stated that the operations took place in Cortile and Hirkut, claiming that they acted upon intelligence suggesting militants were planning to attack an Ethiopian military convoy which was traveling from Dolo to Baidoa in Gedo.
Further military operations against Al-Shabaab fighters, as well as attacks by Al-Shabaab, are possible throughout Somalia in the near term.
