Risk Management on the World Stage: Crisis24 at Olympics
Crisis24 Helps Clients Stay Ahead of Threats at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games thanks to Critical Event Management Platform
Situational Awareness: Risk Management at the Olympics
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games brought together citizens from countries around the globe in the spirit of competition and sportsmanship. The Games spanned less than three weeks of competition, from July 26 to Aug. 11, but required years of preparation and planning by French authorities and security agencies.
Large-scale events like the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games (also hosted in Paris from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8) create heightened threats – including geopolitical tensions, crime, civil unrest, cyberattacks, environmental concerns, and terrorism. For Crisis24, the challenge of protecting its clients began well in advance of the first competition, with the intelligence preparation starting more than 18 months before the opening ceremony.
Crisis24 In Action
On-the-Ground Intelligence Guides Strategy
Crisis24’s local intelligence analysts in Paris began preliminary risk assessments over a year before the Games began. In early 2024, clients started receiving more frequent information to guide their advance preparation.
In April, monthly intelligence briefs for clients with key operations in Paris focused on deep-dive topical analysis, such as recent civil unrest reports, security incidents in Paris (current and historical), LGBTQ travel, and cybersecurity. By July, briefings evolved into weekly updates on potential disruptions in the city, including infrastructure issues, recent crime incidents, and likelihood of upcoming civil unrest. Clients received early threat assessments through a business continuity lens, shifting from monthly to daily and finally to real-time reporting as the Games neared. Embedded analysts also began providing support to their clients many months before the Games began, working as an extension of the clients’ internal teams.
