Luxembourg has a well-developed, high-income, stable economy, making it a favorable environment for foreign investment. The economy is driven by the steel, banking, insurance and telecommunications industries and relies heavily on cross border workers. Infrastructure in Luxembourg is of excellent quality. Road conditions and driving habits are good, although more rural roads linking towns and villages may have poor lighting.

Infrastructure

There are no major safety concerns with international air travel into Luxembourg.

Highways and larger roads in Luxembourg are well-maintained; however, smaller and rural roads linking towns and villages can be poorly maintained and unlit.

The Mertert river port is the only trimodal platform in Luxembourg and is efficient.

Utilities are very good.

There is concern over the growing danger of cyber-attacks, especially spear phishing attacks and the links between cybercrime and terrorism.

Luxembourg enjoys a temperate climate without extremes. Earthquakes are infrequent and relatively low-magnitude. Flooding may occur along rivers and basins, particularly from May to June and again from November to December.

Travelers' diarrhea is the most common ailment among travelers to Luxembourg. Medical care is of excellent quality. Pharmacies are prevalent and most ordinary prescription drugs are widely available. Tap water is safe to drink.

Political

Luxembourg is a unitary multi-party parliamentary constitutional monarchy. The Prime Minister is the head of government, and the monarch is the head of state. The Prime Minister and the Cabinet form the government and exercise executive power. The unicameral parliament, or Chamber of Deputies, exercises legislative power. General elections take place once every five years. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.

Coalitions featuring a cross-section of political parties are typically required to form the government. Government collapses are rare. State institutions are competent and effective and provide reliable services across the country.
