Mexico: Education staff to protests in Chiapas February 17-18

Education staff in Chiapas schedule two-day protest February 17-18; transportation disruptions expected

The Democratic State Assembly has called for protests in Tuxtla Gutiérrez (Chiapas state) on Monday, February 17, and Tuesday, February 18, to demand unpaid wages. Participants will hold events throughout the city on both dates, promising to block roads into and throughout the city. Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are expected in the city.

Individuals in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and across Chiapas state more generally are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution, monitor the situation, allow ample travel time, and obey instructions issued by local authorities.
