Meteorological authorities issue red weather warnings for strong winds in coastal areas on April 14; associated transportation disruptions expected

The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) issued red weather warnings (highest on a four-tier scale) for heavy winds in coastal areas on Tuesday, April 14. The red weather warnings will remain in effect until 23:59 (local time) on Tuesday in the Kvarner Gulf and the Velebit Channel where wind gusts of up to 140 kph (87 mph) are expected. Additional orange warnings (second highest on a four-tier scale) will be in place until 23:59 on Tuesday in the West Istrian coast, the Rijeka region, and the North Dalmatia, Middle Dalmatia, and South Dalmatia regions.

Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible over the coming hours.
