Somalia: Ongoing protest in Mogadishu January 2

The Banadir administration holds protest in Mogadishu January 2; heightened security presence likely

The regional administration of Banadir (Mogadishu region) has called for a protest in Mogadishu to denounce the Al-Shabaab terror group, which claimed responsibility for a recent attack that killed at least 90 people in the capital. Hundreds of participants have gathered at the General Kahiye police academy. Reports indicate that Somalian officials have also joined the march.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in Mogadishu in the coming hours.

Individuals in Mogadishu are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, to monitor developments to the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
