A group of unidentified gunmen assaulted the village of Kwatas (Bokkos local government area) in Plateau state on Sunday, January 26. At least 13 people were killed and another five wounded in the attack. According to initial reports, the incident may be in connection to recent cattle theft in the region and in retaliation for villagers from Kwatas assisting in the arrest of several herdsmen. Additional security forces have deployed into the region to find the gunmen and maintain security. An investigation into the attack is ongoing as of Monday, January 27.
