China: Heightened security in Macao ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping visit December 18-20

Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit Macao for Special Administrative Region (SAR) status celebrations on December 18-20; heightened security measures and associated disruptions expected



Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit Macao from Wednesday, December 18, to Friday, December 20, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Macao's Special Administrative Region (SAR) status.

Ahead of the celebrations, authorities have implemented visa restrictions for Macau from Friday, November 22, to Friday, December 20, allowing travelers under the individual visitor scheme (IVS) or packaged tour visa to visit the territory only once during this period.
