The Green March (Marcha Verde) movement has called for an anti-corruption march to take place on Sunday, June 11, in the city of San Medro de Macorís beginning at 10:00 (local time). The movement is demanding an end to impunity and corruption and for the government recover money allocated for public works projects but stolen by government officials. They are also calling for the preservation of Los Haitises National Park, the Park of the East, the Higuamo River, the Mallen Lagoon, and other natural reserves.

There has been recent public outcry over revelations of more than a decade of allegedly corrupt government contracts and bribery linked with the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
