Romania: Nationwide air traffic controller strike May 12
Two-hour strike planned by air traffic controllers on May 12; anticipate possible flight delays, cancelations nationwide
Event
Romania’s Air Traffic Services Administration (ROMATSA) announced on May 9 that it had received notice from the Romanian Air Traffic Services Union (ATSR) that a two-hour national strike would take place on Friday, May 12, from 11:00 (local time) to 13:00. Flight delays and cancelations are possible due to the strike, including at Bucharest's Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP).
Context
ATSR is protesting against the refusal of the company’s leadership to sign a new collective labor agreement, which has been under negotiation since February 2016, and against budget shortages.
Advice
Travelers planning travel to, from, or via Romania on or around May 12 are advised to confirm the status of their flights before leaving for the airport and to contact their airlines for more information.
