Clashes between the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) and militiamen from what is believed to be a new coalition of armed groups, the National Movement of Revolutionaries (MNR), broke out in Kalonga (Beni, North Kivu) at approximately 07:30 (local time) on Thursday, June 22. Heavy gunfire exchange reportedly erupted and an explosion wounded several students taking exams at a school. According to local sources, the population is currently fleeing the area. Further details are emerging as the situation is ongoing.

Numerous armed groups are active across the country. Violent clashes between these groups and government forces, as well as between rival groups, are common, especially in North Kivu.
