UAE: Authorities warn of increase in pickpocketing

Increase in number of pickpocketing and scam victims reported throughout the country

Authorities in the UAE have issued a warning over an increase in pickpocketing throughout the country, largely taking place near Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).   Suspects allegedly dupe their victims by claiming they have a flat tyre or oil leak, subsequently robbing the victim of the money just obtained from an ATM.  

Police have urged the public to exercise vigilance, particularly during Ramadan.

Context

Police across the UAE have launched a number of awareness campaigns warning against modern and old-fashioned ATM scams, after UAE residents reported a significant increase in theft cases.
