DRC: Gunshots in Gombe district (Kinshasa) July 5

Event

Gunshots were reported in the Gombe business district of the capital Kinshasa on Wednesday morning, July 5. The gunshots, which lasted more than 20 minutes, were heard near Forescom roundabout and Lukusa Avenue. According to a police source, the shooting has been attributed to Shegue youth gangs. All offices and shops located in the area reportedly closed following the incident and UN personnel in Kinshasa were asked to avoid nonessential movements within the city. Police forces and the presidential guard were quickly deployed between the ex-Onatra port and the Forescom roundabout. The situation has reportedly returned to normal but residual traffic disruptions are likely in and around the district.
