Switzerland: Police arrest suspected chainsaw attacker July 25 /update 2

Swiss police officials announced that the suspected Schaffhausen chainsaw attacker had been arrested late on Tuesday, July 25. According to the police, the man was detained in Thalwil, a town located about 60 km (37 mi) from Schaffhausen. Officials have not released any more information about the arrest.

Context

The suspect had been on the run for over 24 hours after the attack on Monday, July 24. Over 100 Swiss and German police officers were involved in the manhunt. The suspect wounded five people with a chainsaw at approximately 10:30 (local time) on July 24. According to media reports, four out of the five victims had been released from the hospital as of Tuesday. According to the initial investigation, the man specifically targeted the offices of the CSS health insurer in the town. Police believe it was a revenge attack and said the man had been living in the woods for the past several months. He also has two previous convictions for weapons offenses. There is currently no evidence to suggest any ties to terrorism.
