France: Disruptions at Paris-Montparnasse station Aug. 1-2 /update 4
Rail disruptions expected to last through August 1; normal service expected to resume August 2
Event
France’s state-owned rail company SNCF has announced that normal service at Paris-Montparnasse train station is expected to resume beginning on Wednesday, August 2, following the repair of a technical failure that has disrupted service since Sunday, July 30. Only three out of four trains regularly scheduled at Montparnasse are running as of August 1. Affected routes have been canceled, rerouted to Paris-Austerlitz station, and/or delayed.
Context
A technical failure on July 30 resulted in severe disruptions for trains operating out of Paris-Montparnasse station. Transportation disruptions were particularly severe as the issue occurred during peak vacation season. Fifty technicians worked overnight, from late Monday to early Tuesday morning, to identify the origin of the failure, subsequently shutting down all traffic to the station. SCNF has announced more repair work is planned from late Tuesday night to early Wednesday morning, although the station is unlikely to be completely closed again.
Advice
Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their trains prior to departure to the station.
