Heavy storms are expected to hit the east of France on Wednesday afternoon, August 30 (local time). Heavy rainfall as well as fierce winds (up to 80 km/h  [50 mph]) are expected, which may cause transport disruptions along with flooding and localized power cuts.

The French Meteorological Agency (Météo France) has issued orange warning alerts – the second-highest on a four point scale – for 19 departments including Ain, Allier, Cantal, Côte-d'Or, Doubs, Jura, Loire, Haute-Loire, Haute-Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle, Puy-de-Dôme, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Rhône, Haute-Saône, Saône-et-Loire, Vosges and Territoire de Belfort. The warnings will be in effect until Thursday, August 31, at 06:00 (local time).

Among these departments, four (Rhône, Jura, Saône-et-Loire, Loire) have also received an orange alert warning for extreme heat as temperatures are expected to rise to 32°C (90°F).

Advice

Individuals in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities.

Furthermore, individuals in areas affected by extreme temperatures are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, to remain well-hydrated (with sugar-free, non-alcoholic beverages), to wear loose, light-colored clothing, and to remain indoors during the hottest part of the day (generally between 10:00 and 15:00). Do not hesitate to seek medical attention if displaying symptoms of heatstroke (headache, dizziness, muscle weakness, lack of sweating despite high heat, rapid heartbeat, etc.).
