Reports say an unidentified group of gunman fired upon the Riyadh headquarters of the Saudi religious police ("Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice") on the evening of Tuesday, August 1. The assailants allegedly fired an automatic weapon from a moving vehicle. No injuries associated with the incident were reported.

Context

The attack comes a week after the chief of the religious police in Qassim province was assassinated by unidentified militants.

Given the prevailing terrorist risk in Saudi Arabia, those present in the country are advised to exercise caution at all times, avoid public places lacking adequate security measures or locations deemed particularly likely to be targeted in the event of an attack (e.g. official buildings, military zones, etc.), and report all suspicious objects or behavior to authorities.
