Belgium: Eurostar service temporarily disrupted Sep. 29
Eurostar service disrupted between Brussels and the UK following signal issue on September 29; expect residual delays despite restoration of service
Event
Eurostar services between London and Paris, Lille, and Brussels were suspended for three hours on Friday, September 29, following a signaling issue at a Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone, England. Large crowds reportedly amassed in London’s St. Pancras International and Paris’ Gare du Nord train stations while service was being restored.
Officials reopened the tunnel on Friday evening, noting that all customers with canceled tickets would be rebooked for travel on Saturday, September 30, and that hotel accommodation would be provided if necessary. Residual delays should continue to be expected while they work to clear Friday’s backlogs.
Context
Eurostar is a rail service connecting London, Brussels, Lille, and Paris. The Channel Tunnel, through which all trains pass when traveling to and from England, is owned and operated separately by Eurotunnel.
Advice
Potentially impacted travelers are advised to verify the status of their train prior to departure for the station and to contact Eurostar for more information.
