Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall cause widespread flooding around Dubrovnik area September 25; adverse weather conditions forecast September 26
Event
On Monday, September 25, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms hit the Dubrovnik area, a popular tourist destination along the Adriatic Sea, causing widespread flooding. According to local reports, water levels rendered walking in the city center nearly impossible. Further thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are forecast for Tuesday, which may cause further flooding.
As a result, transportation disruptions, including reduced rail and bus services, as well as congested road traffic are possible. As of 10:30 (local time) on Tuesday, no flight disruptions had been reported at Dubrovnik International Airport (DBV).
Advice
Individuals in Croatia are advised to follow local weather forecasts and to confirm their travel reservations. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
