France: Storms in northeast September 13

Event

Torrential rain - between 6 and 8 cm (2-3 in) in some areas - is expected to hit seven departments beginning on Wednesday evening (local time), September 13. The seven affected departments, located in the northeast of the country, are: Marne, Haute-Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, and Seine-et-Marne. The French meteorological agency (France Météo) has issued orange alert warnings - the second-highest on a four point scale - for these departments; the alerts will enter into effect at 18:00 and remain in effect until Thursday at 09:00.

Associated transport disruptions may occur as well as localized flooding.

Individuals in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
