Belgium: European Summit in Brussels Oct. 19-20
European leaders to meet in Brussels for European Summit October 19-20; transport disruptions and heightened security expected
Event
A European Summit will be held on Thursday, October 19, and Friday, October 20, at the European Council building in Brussels, bringing together the heads of states and of government of the European Union.
A security perimeter will be enforced in the area around the Schuman roundabout, de la Loi street, Froissart street, and Juste Lipse street. Only authorized personnel, residents with vehicles accredited by police, and the services of the Council of the European Union will be allowed entry. A heightened police and security presence is to be expected.
Furthermore, bus services which normally run through the security perimeter area will be rerouted. As a result, bus delays and increased road congestion are likely during the summit.
Advice
Travelers in Brussels are advised to allow for extra time to reach their destination and to expect heightened security.
