Anti-corruption protests to be held in Santo Domingo and throughout the country October 29

Warning

Event

The anti-corruption group Marcha Verde (Green March) is organizing a national day of protest - a Día Verde - to take place on Sunday, October 29. A demonstration will be held in the capital Santo Domingo, where demonstrators will gather in front of the OMSA building (Oficina Metropolitana de Servicios de Autobuses) located in the west of the city, beginning at 10:00 (local time). Various other protests and related events are planned in the capital, including human chains and concerts. Elsewhere across the country, gatherings of varying sizes are to be anticipated in parks and city squares. Most events will likely remain non-violent but clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.

There has been growing public outcry over recent revelations of more than a decade of allegedly corrupt government contracts and bribery linked with the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.

Individuals in present in the Dominican Republic are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution.
