Thailand: Flooding continues in 12 provinces Nov. 9 /update 5

12 provinces still flooded due to heavy rain since mid-October as of November 9

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, flooding persists in 12 provinces as of Thursday, November 9, with nearly 235,000 people still affected. Heavy rain brought on by a tropical depression in mid-October triggered flash flooding and overflowing riverbanks in 23 provinces between October 10 and November 9, resulting in the deaths of 18 people.

The 12 affected provinces are: Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phichit, Nakhon Sawan, Sin Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, and Roi Et.

Context

Thailand has been hit by severe floods during this year's monsoon season, which typically spans from April through October.

Individuals in Thailand are advised to monitor weather forecasts and to adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. potential evacuation orders). Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
