Commuter train service normalizes following incident at Alcalá de Henares station on December 22
Event
A Renfe commuter train crashed into a barrier at the Alcalá de Henares station around 40 km (24 mi) east of Madrid on the afternoon of Friday, December 22. According to Renfe, the incident occurred at approximately 15:37 (local time) after a mechanical failure at low speed caused the train to strike the end of the track. Officials said that at least 39 people were injured in the accident, including four with serious injuries. The cause of the crash is still being investigated. Service in the area has not been significantly impacted and operations have returned to normal.
