Libya: Risk of attack in Tajura January 23

Event

Unconfirmed reporting indicates that militias aligned with the Government of National Accord (GNA) are planning to attack Al-Bogra forces in the town of Tajura, located directly east of Tripoli. The offensive would be a bid to push the Al-Bogra forces out of the Tripoli region and secure the area around Tripoli-Matiga Airport (MJI). The Al-Bogra troops are located 15 km (9.3 mi) east of MJI. A This attack could take place as soon as Tuesday, January 23; however, as of Tuesday morning there has been no indication of troop movements. 

Context

Bashir Al-Bogra is consolidating support against RADA Special Deterrence Forces (RDF) under a new "unified Tajura Battalion."  The battalion is to include Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) supporters from the cities of Zuwara, Ajaylat, Zawiyah, Gharyan, Tajura, Msallata, Zliten, and Misrata.  He is also known to have forces to the south of Tripoli and they too may become a target for GNA-aligned forces further down the line should they move ahead and deal successfully with forces in Tajura.

Individuals in the area are advised to closely monitor the situation and to confirm flight statuses prior to departure for MJI.
