The exit linking the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway (E03) and Colombo-Kandy Road at the New Kelani Bridge (direction Kelaniya and Wattala) has been closed, beginning on Wednesday, January 10, due to construction work. Motorists going towards Colombo are advised to use the Colombo-Katunayake expressway as usual. Motorists coming from Colombo-Katunayake Expressway towards Kelaniya and Wattala will need to take alternative routes.

Context

Many roads, particularly outside urban areas, are in a serious states of disrepair. Road accidents are frequent, especially at night. In this South Asian island country at war until 2009, security checkpoints and roadblocks still occur in some areas.

In the event of a road accident, individuals are advised to stay at the site of the accident with the vehicle if safe to do so. If threatened, report to the nearest police station.
