Yellow alerts for violent surf and possible flooding along northern coast of the Dominican Republic March 6

The Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) has issued yellow alerts - in effect as of Tuesday, March 6 - for the country’s northern coast due to violent surf as well as flood alerts for low-lying areas in Matancitas (María Trinidad Sánchez province) and Gaspar Hernández (Espaillat province). Beaches between Puerto Plata and Cabo Engaño have been closed until further notice.

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to follow weather reports and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
