Event
At least 11 civilians were killed and ten were reported missing after suspected members of Islamist militia Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) attacked Beni (North Kivu province) on the evening of Tuesday, March 27. Local residents erected roadblocks and protested the continued attacks by militias in the area.

Context
The government's limited reach in the DRC's eastern provinces as well as the presence of numerous armed groups have led to continued insecurity in the area. The ADF has reportedly killed more than 1500 people in the region since 2014.
Advice
A number of Western governments advise their citizens against travel to the east and northeast of the country due to poor security conditions, including the presence of armed groups and a high risk of kidnapping. Professional security advice should be sought prior to travel.
