A protest organized by job aspirants disrupted Mumbai’s train services on Tuesday, March 20, when protesters blocked railway tracks during the morning rush hour. Around 60 trains were canceled in Mumbai, affecting some two million commuters. The blockade has since been lifted, but residual disruptions are possible.

The protesters accuse Indian Railways of denying them jobs despite having passed the railway apprentice exams.

Indian Railways operates over 9000 trains and carries nearly 23 million passengers daily. Strikes and protest movements targeting the public sector company are common and can result in major disruptions. This disruptions are compounded by infrastructural issues, notably in Mumbai and Delhi.
