Militants attack border post in Sistan and Baluchestan province March 11; at least two Iranian soldiers wounded

Suspected Baloch militants attacked the Iranian Saravan border post near the Iranian-Pakistani border (Sistan and Baluchestan province) on Sunday, March 11. According to local sources, two suspected militants were killed in the clashes, while two members of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards were wounded. Further clashes are possible in the coming days and weeks.

Context

The Pakistani government continues to struggle to contain the ongoing separatist movement in Pakistan's Balochistant province, largely spearheaded by the Baloch Liberation Army - a militant organization advocating for self-determination for the Baloch people in Pakistan. The security situation thus remains highly precarious due to the activities of various Baloch insurgent groups as well as a number of terrorist groups.
