Women to protest against proposed anti-abortion law in Warsaw March 23; localized traffic disruptions anticipated

Civil society groups are planning to protest a proposed anti-abortion law in Warsaw on Friday, March 23. The largest demonstration is expected to be held outside of the Sejm (Polish parliament), starting at 16:00 (local time). A march will also start at the Warsaw Archdiocese on Miodwej before traveling towards the Dmowski roundabout. Localized traffic disruptions are expected around the protests.

Context

Women’s rights organizations are protesting a proposed bill that will impose an almost total ban on abortions. The Catholic Church in Poland and the ruling Law and Justice Party support the strict regulations. A demonstration against the proposed law was held previously on March 18 outside of the Archdiocese in Warsaw.
