Event

The Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) issued alerts for possible flooding in a large part of the north and east of the country at 22:30 (local time) on Thursday, April 5; these alerts remain in effect as of early April 6. A red alert, the highest level, is in place for the central province of La Vega. Yellow alerts, the second-highest level, are in effect in Santiago, Espaillat, and Monseñor Nouel, with lower green alerts in effect in Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Puerto Plata, El Seibo, Duarte, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, and La Altagracia.

According to the COE, flooding is possible in both rural and urban areas, notably along waterways.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to follow weather reports and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
