Dominican Rep.: Flood and landslide alerts in place April 9 /update 1

Alerts for possible flooding and landslides remain in place April 9 in seven provinces of the Dominican Republic; follow local weather reports

Alerts issued by the Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) for possible flooding and landslides remain in place in seven provinces as of early Monday, April 9. Yellow alerts, the second-highest level, are in place for the central provinces of Santiago and La Vega. Lower green alerts are in effect in San Juan, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, Espaillat, and El Seibo. According to the COE, flooding is possible in both rural and urban areas, notably along waterways.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to follow weather reports and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
