Nepal: New Year celebration in Bhaktapur (capital region) April 11-19

Security measures have been beefed up in the historical city of Bhaktapur, located 13 km (8 mi) east of the capital Kathmandu, amid the annual Bisket Jatra festival. Celebrations began in the city on Wednesday, April 11, and will last for nine days and eight nights, until April 19. Some 1000 security personnel have been mobilized for the festival, which marks the beginning of Nepali New Year. Lights and CCTV cameras have been installed at major thoroughfares of the city. 

Context

Bisket Jatra is an annual event celebrated in various places in Nepal, notably in Bhaktapur where many events are held at the Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Thimi Balkumari.
