Spain: Demonstrations in Madrid April 13 and 15

Two unrelated demonstrations planned in Madrid on April 13 and 15; transportation disruptions anticipated

Warning

Event

According to the US Department of State, a demonstration linked to the Summit of the Americas (taking place on April 13 and 14 in Lima, Peru) is planned for Friday, April 13, in front of the US Embassy in Madrid. The demonstration is expected to draw at least 200 people and will last from 19:30 until 21:30 (local time).

On Sunday, April 15, a second - unrelated - march is set to take place in Madrid. Beginning at 11:30, anti-abortion activists will march from the intersection of Calle Serrano and Calle Diego de León to Puerta de Alcalá. The event marks the annual “International Day of Life” and is expected to draw 30,000 participants. Given the sensitivity of the issue, counter-protests cannot be ruled out.

An increased security presence as well as associated transportation disruptions are likely in the vicinity of both events.

Advice

Individuals in Madrid are advised to monitor developments to the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and avoid all demonstrations and protests as a precaution.
