Workers at Colombo's Bandaranaike-Katunayake International Airport (CMB), Sri Lanka's main airport, called off their strike on Tuesday, April 3, after a meeting with authorities. The worker's strike began on Tuesday morning, with demonstrations in the airport blocking passengers' access to the departure area. Normal operations are consequently to be expected

Context

The protest was led by employees of the Airport and Aviation Services who were demanding a salary hike. Initial reports indicate authorities agreed to the demands of a wage hike of 10,000 Sri Lankan Rupees (USD 64) but asked for letters of assurance that operations at the airport would be maintained.

Advice

Passengers traveling via CMB are advised to confirm flight statuses due to potential residual delays, avoid all protests, monitor the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
