5.2-magnitude earthquake strikes Adiyaman province (southeast) April 24; injuries and damage reported

In the early hours of Tuesday, April 24 (local time), a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Adiyaman province, located in southeastern Turkey. At least 39 people sustained injuries and damages to buildings were reported. Schools in the area have been closed for the day. At least eight aftershocks were felt on Tuesday morning following the quake and further aftershocks are likely.

Individuals present in the affected region are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities. In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), to move away from windows, and to not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
