India: Dust storm death toll rises May 4 /update 1

Indian authorities announced that the causality toll of dust storms ongoing since May 2 in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan reached 125 deaths and more than 160 injured. These numbers are expected to rise in the coming days as dust storms continue to batter the area.

Uttar Pradesh (especially Agra district) and Rajasthan (particularly Alwar, Bharatpur, and Dholpur districts) states have been impacted the most. Uttarakhand and Punjab were also impacted. Material damages (e.g. uprooted trees) and water shortages have been reported; local power supply was also disrupted. The majority of deaths reported were due to collapsed houses.
