Authorities and security forces in the Jammu region are on high alert following a tip alleging militants from Pakistan successfully infiltrated the border in Kathua district in the early hours (local time) of Monday morning, May 14. Police and security forces have launched searches in the area.

Context

The Kathua district is a well-known infiltration route used in the past by Pakistani militants to enter the Indian-administrated part of Kashmir (known as Jammu and Kashmir state in India). Clashes with security personnel occur frequently in the region.

As a reminder, Western authorities usually advise their citizens against all travel to Jammu and Kashmir with the exception of travel within the city Jammu, travel by air to the city of Jammu, and travel within the Ladakh region. Individuals present in the Jammu region are advised to keep abreast of the situation and to adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
