Power outage impacts around 170,000 people in the Paris area May 16; service restored in some areas

Around 170,000 people lost power in the Paris area at approximately 15:45 (local time) on Wednesday, May 16. Residents in the 8th, 16th, and 17th arrondissements and the municipalities of Levallois-Perret and Neuilly-sur-Seine were impacted by the blackout. According to the Réseau de transport d’électricité (RTE), power was restored to most affected clients by 17:20; however, 28,000 people are still without power as of Wednesday evening. Residents reported being unable to use phone networks in impacted areas. In Levallois-Perret, local government officials ordered all municipal facilities, the aquatic center, and the conservatory to be evacuated until power was restored. The cause of the outage is still under investigation as of Wednesday evening.
