DRC: Suspected ADF militants kill three policemen in Butembo June 1

On the morning of Friday, June 1 (local time), suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel fighters attacked the town of Butembo (North Kivu). According to local sources, at least three police officers and one ADF militant were killed in the attack. Further militant attacks and retaliatory military operations are possible in the coming days.

The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, including North Kivu, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups (such as the ADF) and local self-defense militias (Maï-Maï militias) have led to continued insecurity in the area.
