At least 16 injured in a separatist militant attack in Kashmir on June 4

At least 16 individuals were injured on Monday, June 4, in a grenade attack carried out by separatist militants in Shopian (Batapora area). The casualties include 12 civilians and four police officers.
Tensions remain high in the region between separatists militants, Pakistani forces, and Indian forces. Cross-border fire between Indian and Pakistani forces in addition to attacks by separatist groups are possible in the coming days and weeks.
Context
Since the beginning of May, clashes between Indian forces and both separatists militants and Pakistani forces have increased in the Kashmir region. Social unrest, general strikes, and violent clashes are common.
