Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) forces kill nine suspected Kurdish militants near Oshnavieh June 9

Warning

Event

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) announced on Saturday, June 9, that nine suspected Kurdish militants were killed while attempting to cross the border from northern Iraq. According to the IRGC, the fighters were detected near the town of Oshnavieh (West Azerbaijan province). Officials claim they were members of the Kurdish Free Life Party (PJAK).

Context

On June 5, unidentified gunmen killed two Iranian border guards outside Sardasht (West Azerbaijan province), also near the Iraqi border. The militant threat remains high in all of Iran's border areas, especially in the west and the east, due to weak border monitoring by neighboring countries including Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkey.

Advice

Individuals present in the affected area are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or behavior to the relevant authorities.
